MICHELLE HUANG joined Black Burke Mayor LLP after practising at another union-side labour law firm and articling at the national office of a large private-sector union. She is passionate about advancing the rights of workers and harnessing the power of the collective to create social change.
Michelle obtained her JD from the University of Toronto. Throughout law school, Michelle spent much of her time advocating for tenants and workers at legal aid clinics. She appeared before the Landlord and Tenant Board, the Small Claims Court, and participated in systemic litigation at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. Michelle also worked closely with injured migrant workers to develop a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board policy that furthered access to compensation for repatriated workers.
As a student, Michelle joined a grassroots justice collective to organize low-income tenants for strategic litigation against corporate landlords. She also co-founded a food justice mutual aid initiative that delivers hot meals and groceries to precarious and under-served populations across the Greater Toronto Area.
Michelle holds an MA in Sociology from the University of Toronto and a BA from McGill University.
Outside of work, Michelle enjoys reading, live music, and dabbling in pottery and film photography.
